Wipro School Leaders Program

 

The Wipro School Leaders Program is a one-year professional learning program that will support the growth and development of participants’ leadership identity and stance, strengthen their ability to practice leadership, and build a strong community of leaders within and across participating districts. 

Features of the program:

  • Intensive Summer Institute - July 2024 dates TBD
  • Monthly whole-group professional learning sessions (dates TBD)
  • Collaboration with other school and district leaders
  • Mentoring sessions focused on individual and school/district goals
  • A community of school and district leaders focused on supporting each other with persistent problems of practice in science classrooms or science teaching

The goal of the Wipro School Leaders Program is to build the capacity of a cross-district cohort of school site leaders who are ready to: 

  1. improve the quality of teaching and learning for all students, particularly for historically marginalized and underserved students, 
  2. create strong learning communities at their school sites, 
  3. improve teaching and learning in science, and
  4. support the goals of the Wipro Science Education Fellowship Program.
Collective Outcomes: 
  • School leaders will develop a better understanding of high quality science teaching and learning.
  • School leaders will develop their leadership capacity to support high-quality instruction for all students, particularly those who have been most marginalized and underserved.
  • School leaders will be strengthened by becoming part of a community of leaders in the field who support and engage with each other around problems of practice.
Gains

Through the experiences in this program, participants will:

  • strengthen their leadership identity and stance
  • practice strong leadership that supports effective and inclusive instruction by creating a learning culture for adults
  • practice leadership in ways that improve outcomes for all students

  • Next Generation Science Standards and the 5E Instructional Model
  • Leadership Theories and Practices

  • Working with adults (peers, stakeholders, supervisors, etc.)
    • Adult learning and development
    • Group relations and interactions
    • Planning for effective professional learning and meetings
    • Empowering teacher leaders
  • Using a data-driven approach to analyze who we are or are not serving
Summer Institute and School Year Whole group sessions - dates TBD
  • The Summer Institute will be an in-person session at Stanford University that will take place in July 2024 (dates TBD)
  • Participants will meet throughout the school year for whole-group professional learning sessions virtually. School-year professional learning dates will be determined by what works best for participants.  

This program is supported by a grant received as a part of the Wipro Science Education Fellowship Program, so there are no additional program fees for participation. 

Eligibility: 

School principals, assistant principals, instructional coaches, and/or teacher leaders considering school leadership from the following school districts are eligible to participate in this program from the following school districts only: Campbell Union High School District, Moreland School District, Mountain View Whisman School District, San Francisco Unified School District, and San Jose Unified School District.
